In view of providing free internet connection to the population, 350 Wi-Fi Hotspots was launched on 6 April 2017 by the Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development.
 

Launch of Wi-Fi Mauritius

This launch was done simultaneously in Mapou, Plaza, Riviere des Anguilles and Bambous. The population will be able to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots located in several regions: 26 in the West, 50 in Port Louis, 27 zones in Pamplemousses district, 40 in Riviere-du-Rempart district, 23 in Moka, 45 in Flacq, 36 in Grand-Port, 38 in the district of Savanne and 65 zones in Plaines-Wilhems.

MT Foundation financed Wi-Fi Mauritius for the sum of Rs 34,432,894 for the purchase and installation of the equipment.

The objective of this launching is to provide free internet access across the island. Wi-Fi Mauritius is an important tool for the democratization of the access to the internet.  Fully conscious that digital technology is a formidable driver for education, training and professional integration, MT Foundation is proud to be part of this revolutionized project with the Government to make Mauritius among the first in the world in providing free Wi-Fi access to the population.
